This collection of samples was inspired by the starting point SARASWATI featured within the overarching theme of ‘Goddesses’ within Trend Union: Trends and Textiles, for Spring / Summer 2019. Saraswati is the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, arts and wisdom, and Trend Union developed this meaning further through their use of the key words; dazzling , purify, flamboyant, liquid.
As the first project of my second year at Nottingham Trent University, particular focus was placed on development of woven technical knowledge and understanding, providing grounds with which to improve our craft. This technical underpinning explains the variation in choice of structures and cloth types, within this collection.
Use of colour and yarn choice was also an integral part of this collection, to ensure the translation of vibrancy and warmth of the selected starting point and surrounding imagery produced throughout the project.

I was drawn to the SARASWATI starting point due to its connections with beauty and purity, inspiring the choice to make nature the visual focus for this collection. Sunset skies and warm florals were among the key imagery for this collection.
